Word Art Designs

Great job these past two weeks designing with words! You've all created interesting and innovative designs using text and imagery. I would like to you to reflect on the two designs you've made.

Please upload your word art designs. For EACH design, please answer the following questions:

1. Tell me about your design: Why did you choose the word/image? Does the word/image have special meaning to you? Why or why not?
2. What was your biggest struggle in making this design? (technical issues, brainstorming, motivation, etc.)

Long time, no blog.

Welcome back to the blog world! We took a break from blogging last quarter due to our animations (and all of the time we needed to devote to making them). Moving forward with the success of our animations, let's brag about them =)

In your own words, give a brief synopsis (summary) of the plot of your completed animation.

What was your biggest struggle in making your animation (i.e. technical issues, motivation, etc)?

What are you most proud of with your animation?

If you could do it all over again, what would you change? What would you keep the same?

Also, if you've figured out how to do it - either upload your animation to your blog or put a link to it on here (through youtube or vimeo, etc).

Tell Me a Story.

This quarter we are focusing on narrative themes in art and how to tell stories. After viewing the first part of the Art:21 episode on stories, it becomes clear that these artists use experiences and memories from their childhood to influence their current artwork. Think of a memory from your childhood (from at least 5 years ago) and retell the memory as a story. Become the main character in your story. Describe the other "characters" included in your memory. Be descriptive of your surroundings. Make sure your story has a beginning, a middle and an end.

The Best of 2009!

Happy New Year! One thing that I always enjoy doing around the start of the new year is to reflect upon the past year. I like thinking about what I've accomplished as well as figure out how I can make the new year even better. I would like you to consider all of the artwork that you have created in this class this past year and choose 3 individual images to upload on your blog that you feel are your very best. These can be photographs or computer generated artwork (i.e. graphic design problems, etc).

For each image answer the following questions:

• Title your artwork (if you've uploaded this image before, check to see what you titled it)

• Why did you choose this artwork as one of your best?

• What about this artwork makes you feel it is successful (consider shots, angles, composition, colors, etc)

• If you were to expand upon this artwork (to create a series of related images), what would you do?

Lastly, I'd like to know what your new year's resolution is. It can be related to this class or it can be a personal goal of yours.

Film Fest Logo

Hey Graphic Designers! Great job on your first assignment. Upload your favorite logo that you created and tell us what type of logo it is (Alphagram, Pictogram, Logotype or Abstract). Then tell us how it incorporates good logo design (simplicitiy, legibility, retention value, and how it relates to the product or service).

Think about a company or service that you like. What is it? Can you picture it's logo (or a symbol that represents that company)? What does it look like? Is text or letters incorporated in it? What are the colors of the logo? What does it make you think of when you see it? How does it make you feel? Has the logo changed at all?

The past two weeks we've talked about identity and how to capture a person's identity and emotions in photographs. You were asked to take 6 photos of one person (or a small group of people) trying to capture their identity and emotions. Upload your 6 photos below. Name each photo. Then, answer the following questions:

1. If you could describe your series of photographs in a few words, what would they be?

2. Why did you choose to photograph the person (or people) that you did?

3. What did you learn about that person (or people) while photographing them?

4. What was easy about photographing that person (or people)?
